China's central government integrated the sustainable development goals into the country's national development policy, including the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25). It has also set up an interagency coordination system and constantly released position papers and progress reports on the SDGs.

Between 2016 and 2023, China rose in the SDG Index rankings from 15th to 13th among Group of 20 countries. Out of all 166 countries measured, it now ranks 63rd.

China also ensures a stable supply and prices in the grain market by advancing the circulation system, optimizing the supply chain management, and improving the emergency grain security mechanisms. In addition to the domestic bumper harvests, China is the world's largest importer of agricultural products.
